Elizabeth ShanahanAttorney and Counselor at Law
Elizabeth’s interest in elder law and estate planning grew from personal experiences over the years. As she observed the challenges friends and relatives faced when caring for elderly family members, she began to appreciate the need for legal guidance as well as practical advice for health and financial matters, particularly for the aging community. Helping her mother navigate such matters was also influential in her decision to pursue a career in elder law and estate planning. In addition, as her own family grew she recognized that estate planning should begin for families much sooner than it often does and should evolve over time. As an attorney, she looks forward to guiding clients through the process of their planning, and understands the sensitivity needed in hearing about their concerns and wishes for their legacies.
Prior to elder law and estate planning, Elizabeth worked in the financial industry. She also took some time out of her career to raise her three children, during which she remained active in her community, serving in roles on the PTA Executive Committee and on the board of a local non-profit theatre company, among other endeavors. Elizabeth earned a B.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University and her J.D. from New York Law School.
Elizabeth and her husband Eamon, and their children Fiona, Brendan and Keira, live in the Hudson Valley.
